Cardiac Department

A community hospital wanted to expand their interventional cardiac program. The problem was space.  There simply was not enough to accommodate the new Interventional Lab without causing major disruptions and incurring huge costs.

We proposed  the cross utilization of an adjacent AM admit program.  Data was collected and a simulation  model was created to test this concept. This considered the type of patient, arrival time, gender, and duration of stay.  The model clearly demonstrate that the two departments could share  prep rooms without any modification to the rooms.  Scenarios were then tested increasing the census to match projections. This was also successfully demonstrated.

The addition of the interventional room was able to proceed without extensive impact to the adjacent floor, saving costs and reducing disruption.
